Privacy and your data

The short version: nothing about you is collected, and your settings never leave your device.

The short version

This metronome collects nothing that identifies you. There is no account, no sign-up, no cookie banner (because there are no cookies), no advertising and no tracking across websites. The only statistics tool is Umami, reached through this site’s own address, which counts visits, which features get used and how fast pages load, without cookies and without identifying you (see below). Everything you set in the metronome stays in your browser.

What stays on your device

So the tool is usable the next time you open it, your settings are saved in this browser’s local storage, on your device. That is:

  • tempo, time signature, grouping, accents and subdivision,
  • the speed trainer plan (start, target, step, stage length, count-in),
  • volume, click sound, theme and the keep-the-screen-on preference.

This data never leaves the device and is never readable by anyone else. Clearing your browser’s site data for this site erases all of it. A service worker also caches the page files on your device so the metronome works offline; those are the site’s own files, nothing about you.

Hosting and visit statistics

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like every web server, Cloudflare processes the technical details of your connection — IP address, browser user agent, the file requested, the time — in order to deliver the page and to protect the service from abuse. To know how many people visit and which features they use, the site uses Umami Cloud, with servers in the EU, reached through this site’s own address (/a/). It counts page views with the country, the referring site, the type of browser and device and how fast the page loaded, and records what happens in the metronome: when you start or stop the metronome, finish a speed-trainer plan, use tap tempo or change a setting, it sends that fact with coarse values only — for example “started the trainer, 100–139 BPM, 7/8, 5–15 minutes”. No cookies, nothing stored on your device, no identifier of any kind. The author only ever sees totals.

The Android app

The app in Google Play is the same website, running in a Trusted Web Activity, or in the app’s own web view on phones without a browser that supports one. Its only Android permission is internet access; it has no access to your microphone, contacts, files or location, and collects nothing beyond the visit statistics described above. Google Play collects its own installation and crash statistics under Google’s privacy policy, which is outside the control of this project.
